This is a collection of brief reprinted correspondence addressing the subject of whether to subsist or supply the United States Army through contractors or commissaries during the War of 1812. Reprinted correspondence by G. W. Troup, James Monroe, W. Scott, E. P. Gaines, and John R. Fenwick is included. The overwhelming consensus represented by these letters is in favor of commissaries and opposed to contractors. Contractors are described as being disloyal to the federal government and privileged in attitude (such as helping themselves first to a disproportionate amount of rations). Arguments are also made on the basis of contemporary laws.. Book. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: No Binding
